Creating Calendars

I was asked back in March if I would create an image to represent our school in next year’s 2007-2008 district school calendar. I was excited, of course. I mean, it should be the job of each computer lab teacher CIA to create the calendar image right? I mean, they should be the techy people in the school.
Anyway, the school calendar images in the past always contained student artwork. There was like a contest to get your art on the district calendar. Well, last year they decided to let each school create an image and those were used as the monthly calendar image. My school’s image last year (before I worked there mind you) was a big, blurry picture of the school with a bunch of poorly photoshopped sunflowers in front….sunflowers? There ain’t no freakin’ sunflowers in front of our school! How odd.
Today I just finished up the image. The principal (Notice how I always refer to her as “the principal? I just don’t want to use anyone’s name here
) wanted us to really showcase the good things about our school and how we are winners (even though some might think we aren’t based on test scores.
). So, this is what I came up with. This is a small picture. You can click on it to see the full version.
It’s ten-million times better than ANY school calendar image last year. Last year’s calendar was full of crappy-looking photos stuck on a page. No real graphic design skills were used by anyone. Not to say that I have ultimate supreme graphic design abilities, but at least I have enough sense to know that you don’t stick some ugly, blurry sunflowers in front of a school when there aren’t any there to begin with!
Now, I really need to work on the school website once I know for sure what I’m doing next year.

First off, you should be honoured they asked you to make the image. They obviously think you’ve got talent (which you do!). The picture is amazing .. I’m sure everyone will love it.

I find it funny that my old middle school was named Jesse Clark Middle and their mascot was an eagle with what looks like the same colours. It prob looks like it has nothing to do with your school but it amused me to associate the two together.

[...] for our school calendar page in the district calendar. It’s pretty much the same idea as the one I did last year. Instead of a corkboard feel I went with a chalkboard feel. It’s pretty good I think. [...]
