Sittin’ in the Lab
sittin in the lab
feeling sort of drab
i was listening to mrs. parker
while the sylvan scene grew darker and darker
the ubiquitous fog was closing in
and i felt like the trouble may soon begin
april was complaining
then it started raining
danielle disappeared from view
oh my, oh my, what are we to do?!
cynthia and tabitha were gazing at pictures on the wall
i guess they didn’t have anything else to do at all
tessa was busy finishing her portfolio work
and claire sat dreaming of a mountain of pork
david was embellishing upon the walls of dingy white
it really was quite an exquisite sight
treg and brandon were planning their chicanery
lance and jessica were gone looking at machinery
travis was acting somewhat atrociously
and stephanie was studying sociology
in conclusion, this poem must end
because the time is running thin
About “Sittin’ in the Lab”
I wrote this my senior year of high school (2001). My English IV class was spending some time in the computer lab working on our writing portfolio pieces. I had finished my work for the day and decided to compose a poem of about what was happening around me. I used several of that week’s vocabulary words (sylvan, ubiquitous, etc.). I read it to my teacher and the class. It was funny.
