I’ll Be Here
you were there
when i needed a friend
you never gave up on me
you stuck by me till the end
and now that you’re leavin’
I’ll never forget your face
because we have an unconditional love no one could replace
each day that you’re away
i miss you
and each time i laugh and cry
i wish you were here
and even though you’re far away
you’re still with me every day
and if you ever need me
i’ll be here
you helped me so many times
that i stopped countin’
whatever the problem you were there
we may have had our differences
but that’s not important now
because through all the problems
we still remained friends somehow
and each day that you’re away
i miss you
and each time i laugh and cry
i wish you were here
and even though you’re far away
you’re still with me every day
and if you ever need me
i’ll be here
you were a shoulder to cry on
someone to comfort me
i wouldn’t be the same today
if you hadn’t given me
the key to your heart
where you let me be a part
of your life and your love
you were sent from above
and if you ever need me
i’ll be here
each day that you’re away
i miss you
and each time i laugh and cry
i wish you were here
and even though you’re far away
you’re still with me every day
and if you ever need me
i’ll be here
in my heart, in my soul
you’re the best friend i know
and if you ever need me
i’ll be here
About “I’ll Be Here”
I wrote this the summer after eighth grade. I guess that must have been 1997. I actually wrote it as a song. My best friend, Kayla, was moving to another county. We had gone to school together all of our lives. I had to go to high school without her, and that upset me that summer. I don’t usually like making new friends. I’m shy! She was one of the only friends I had consistently through elementary and middle school. I was inspired by her move to write this. It’s not specifically about her, just the idea of someone close being away from you.
