Movie Ratings
Recently, my husband and I joined Netflix. As many movies that we were renting, it seemed cheaper and more convenient to go with Netflix. We've been watching at least two movies a week since March. I thought it would be neat for me to rate the movies we watch on my site. This list includes movies from Netflix, movies on TV, and movies seen at the theater. All opinions are my own. ^__^

My expectations were not high given the fact Paris Hilton is in this movie. The first hour or so was pretty boring in my opinion: road trip, lovin' in a tent, semi-obnoxious characters, etc. Once the female main character and her boyfriend got to the House of Wax, that's when the movie got better. It got better like all of a sudden almost. It was really weird. All of the wax stuff was totally creepy. The ending (well, a lot of the movie) was pretty unbelievable/unrealistic but that's how most horror movies are I guess.

IMDB Summary: A group of friends on their way to a college football game falls prey to a pair of murderous brothers in an abandoned small town. They discover that the brothers have expanded upon the area's main attraction.. the House of Wax. And created an entire town filled with the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors. Now the group must find a way out before they too become permanent exhibits in the House of Wax... -

I don't really like Hilary Swank, and the thought of AnnaSophia Robb being some creepy child was a little sad, but Colin picked this movie out. The 10 Biblical Plagues have started happening in this very small town. This movie kind of had a twist ending which was neat.
0.3
IMDB Summary: A former Christian missionary, who specializes in debunking religious phenomena, investigates a small town which seems to be suffering from the 10 biblical plagues. -

After Sex (2007)
3/5
So basically this movie is about all these different couples (straight, gay, virgins, etc.) and the conversation they have right after having sex. It's pretty funny. Only, there wasn't like a boring married couple with kids really.
0.3
IMDB Summary: AFTER SEX is an edgy relationship comedy that uses sex as a background to examine intimacy and vulnerability. It's a humorous, yet honest look at the complexity of modern day relationships told through nine separate couples. Through witty dialogue and compromising situations, the film takes us from the beginning of a relationship to the aftermath of one, and examines every stage in between while somehow finding humor within the drama, heartache and confusion of it all. What is learned about human emotions and vulnerability is enlightening and entertainingly sexy and fun. -

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
4/5
I basically only wanted to see this movie because it had the word "murderer" in it and Alan Rickman is in it. Turns out, this movie was nothing I thought it would be and ended up being very interesting and slightly disturbing.
0.3
IMDB Summary: Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born in the stench of eighteenth century Paris, develops a superior olfactory sense, which he uses to create the world's finest perfumes. His work, however, takes a dark turn as he tries to preserve scents in the search for the ultimate perfume -

Lola rennt (1998)
3.5/5
Well this movie just went on and on. It's the first German movie I have ever watched, and overall it was good. I'm not crazy about it, but it did have some funny moments and some crazy moments. Man, was Lola's hair ever orangey.
0.3
IMDB Summary: A young woman in Germany has twenty minutes to find and bring 100,000 Deutschmarks to her boyfriend before he robs a supermarket. -

Across the Universe (2007)
4.5/5
When I originally started seeing this movie advertised, I thought it was going to be a dumb, trippy movie. I was so wrong! I loved this movie! I didn't know it was a musical, so that was a nice surprise! I also didn't know that it uses Beatles songs throughout the movie. That was also kind of neat. I thought it was brilliant how they worked in all the songs and make it part of the plot. I want this DVD!

Zodiac (2007/I)
3.5/5
What a long movie. -_-; I thought this movie was interesting though. I can't believe they never really found out for sure who the serial killer was. It always bothers me when I see movies based on real events and find out that it wasn't ever really resolved. Scary.
0.3
IMDB Summary: Based on the Robert Graysmith books about the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s. -

"Fruits Basket" (2001)
4.5/5
I finally finished the whole series of Fruits Basket. What a really cute anime! The characters are great - so many personalities and qualities. A very cute anime overall. Only the last episode disappointed me. I wish there were more episodes!

Sicko (2007)
3.5/5
I guess a lot of people either love or hate Michael Moore. I have liked all of his movies that I've seen and this one is no exception. The healthcare system in America is absolutely ridiculous. This movie only points out so many of the inconsistencies and corruptness of it all. It's pretty frustrating to see so many people hurt by the lack of humanity from people and insurance companies.
0.3
IMDB Summary: A documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories. -

Juno (2007)
3.5/5
There was so much hype about this movie. I thought it would be pretty funny. It was, but then it just kind of got old. The music was atrocious in my opinion and not my cup of tea. It just seemed to kind of go on and on and I think the whole thing is pretty overrated. *shrugs* It was okay dawg.
0.3
IMDB Summary: Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child. -

Hairspray (1988)
3/5
This movie is so raunchy and skanky. It's pretty funny though. I first saw this back when I was probably 8 years old or something. I must say, I love the remake of this movie much better and love how they made it into a musical.
0.3
IMDB Summary: A 'pleasantly plump' teenager teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show. -

2LDK (2003)
3/5
This movie was insane! Girls just beating the crap out of each other! This DVD came with Suicide Club and another Japanese movie that I got for Christmas. Two girls basically are sharing an apartment and they are up for the same part in a movie. The whole movie is them by themselves in their apartment. I love how you can hear what they are thinking about each other. It's pretty funny actually.
0.3
IMDB Summary: Nozomi and Lana share an apartment in Tokyo. They have both auditioned for the same role in a movie, and know that the shortlist has been cut down to just the two of them. As they wait the night before finding out who will get the role, their personality clashes erupt into an all-out battle. -

Hot Fuzz (2007)
4/5
What a funny movie! Melissa from The Q*Bee let me know about this one, and I wasn't disappointed at all. Blood, violence, weirdness, awesome. I wouldn't mind having this one on DVD.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet...
4/5
I love Johnny Depp. I love musicals. I love blood and gore. This movie should have been absolutely perfect for me. It almost was. I liked the gore, darkness of it all, and the songs for the most part were pretty good. It was a little more dramatic than I was expecting. Overall though, it was good enough that I'd watch it again and possibly even want to own on DVD.
0.3
IMDB Summary: Based on the hit Broadway musical which tells the infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. -

Enchanted (2007)
3.5/5
What a cute movie. No one else but Disney could pull this off. It really does have a lot of cliche Disney princess moments, but Disney making fun of itself really does work. The songs are great, and Amy Adams' character is really sweet.
0.3
IMDB Summary: A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess who is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world? -

Hairspray (2007)
5/5
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I saw it when it came out in the theatre in July. I actually saw it twice in the theatre. I am the proud owner of the Shake and Shimmy edition DVD and have already watched it several more times. This is such a feel good movie, yet it deals with a very serious issue. The soundtrack is absolutely to die for. Every cast member delivers a memorable performance. You MUST see this movie!!

Doggy Poo! (2003)
3.5/5
This was one of the movies you can actually watch online from Netflix. Oh man... a little animated short about...doggy poo. Who would have thought? The poor little poo was very adorable though. The movie was actually very emotional. I felt very bad for the little guy. It was more serious than I expected. Poor little poo. It turns out...okay... in the end though. I guess.
0.3

Girl's High
4.5/5
What a hilarious anime! Lots of panty-shots, and sexual references, and overall just good ol' fun with high school girls. The characters are so likeable and cute. This was so much fun to watch that I bought the whole series for Colin for Christmas. :D
0.3

Awake (2007)
4.5/5
This movie was pretty freaky. It was way better than I expected. However, I think you'd be better off seeing this movie without knowing anything about it. It was very suspenseful, and I really liked how the last 30 minutes or so of the movie turned out. It was pretty neat.
0.3
IMDB Summary: The story focuses on a man who suffers "anesthetic awareness" and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery. His young wife must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them. -

Bee Movie (2007)

I had to see this movie. I used to be/sort of still am a huge bee fan. This movie was really cute I thought, but it was also really funny. Lots of cute yellow bees. How could you not enjoy that?
