Me - Ashley

Welcome to Rainbow Stuff, cyberhome of... well... me! I'm Ashley - a 25 year old elementary school first grade teacher from Kentucky. I met my husband online and I love him, strawberry smoothies and my one-eyed cat, Pouncy. This is my blog, personal website, and general collection of my bits of randomness. Rainbows rule. More?

Testing out WordPress

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Okay, so since the death of my Cutenews and because of persuasion from fellow members of the Quilting Bee, I have decided to give this whole WordPress thing another try. Time will tell if I can handle this change.

Quilting Bee Blog Day

Friday, December 15th, 2006

So, today is the second annual Q*Bee Blog Day. I wasn’t around for the last one, so it’s neat I get to participate in this one.

The Quilting Bee is an amazing little pixel club. It just so happens to really be the first ever organized pixel trading club. It is a wonderful community of really cool people and is not *that* hard to become a member of. You do not have to be an incredibly amazing pixeller to join. Here’s a brief description of all things Q*Bee related.

To join, you (of course) have to read the rules and meet the guidelines to join. (No Geocities sites, for example) You must create quilt pages, a 40 X 40 quilt “patch” to trade with others, and you need to update your site monthly and be able to trade at least twice a month with other club members. Those are all simple things to do. Your patch can be as simple or creative as you’d like for it to be. Everyone is really great about the patches and they never criticize you if your patch isn’t really fancy.

There are all sorts of neat things for members to do. There are club contests and activities, awards to win, and even a special member-only BBS. (This is the BEST BBS I have ever been a member of!) Right now there is a Christmas Activity going on where members can send pixel presents and Christmas cards to each other. I also created my very own Q*Bee Advent Calendarespecially for Q*Bee members.

There all also sorts of quilt goodies (freebie patches and graphics, quilt templates and borders, and quilt scripts) to help get you started. Also, if you get in contact with any bee, I’m sure they’d be more than happy to help you out and answer any questions you have. I know I would “bee.” ^___^

I’m bee #267, and I am a Worker Bee for bees # 181 - # 200. This means I check their sites twice monthly to make sure their quilts are running smoothly and that they are following the rules. I’m also a Daily Bee Staff free-writer. I’ve won several awards, and it’s really great because bees are very nice about nominating fellow bees for awards. Awards are given out monthly. It makes you feel real special when you win one. ^___~

I wanted to join the Quilting Bee because it looked so adorable. I saw a quilt on someone’s site, and I wanted one of my own! I think I might have even applied a few years back, but never took off with it. I rejoined this summer and have been a happy bee ever since. It’s really given me a chance to practice pixelling and creating graphics. Because of the Q*Bee I even learned some PHP and totally gave my site an overhaul! Many bees shared their expertise and helped me with this more than they may realize.

The Quilting Bee is about friendship. It’s not about how well you pixel, how big your site is, or who has the most patches. If you’re looking for a wonderful online community of super-nice people who like to make new friends (and have some fun too!)- join the Quilting Bee.
