Me - Ashley

Welcome to Rainbow Stuff, cyberhome of... well... me! I'm Ashley - a 25 year old elementary school computer lab teacher from Kentucky. I met my husband online and I love him, strawberry smoothies and my one-eyed cat, Pouncy. This is my blog, personal website, and general collection of my bits of randomness. Rainbows rule. More?

Rainbow Cupcakes

Rainbow Cupcake

So yesterday I was browsing through the photos my Flickr contacts had uploaded recently, and I came across this one from mypapercrane. The idea for the cake came from all of the rainbow cupcakes that have been posted at the Bake! Bake! Bake! LiveJournal community. I promptly went to LJ community and was in awe of the gorgeous rainbow cupcakes people were making. As most of you who read this will know, I love rainbows. I decided I had to try this out for myself. When Colin went to get groceries today (I stayed home because I was cleaning), I had him pick up cupcake supplies. I spent 2-3 hours today baking these cupcakes.

Rainbow Cupcake

For my first time doing this, I think they turned out pretty awesome! I made up my cake batter and separated it into seven containers. I added food coloring to each container. My purple turned out kind of weird because I mixed blue and purple. I later found real, plain purple that I used for the frosting. I was worried I had filled the cupcake liners too full, but I had to get each of the seven colors in there. I didn’t want to wait for the cupcakes to cool and then make another dozen, so I just used my new star mini cake pan I bought yesterday and used the remaining cake batter to make little mini star cakes.

A couple of the star tips broke off. The orange star is pretty mangled, but they are still cute and colorful all the same. I was also worried that when I cut a cupcake in half I would get a mixed up mess, but it looks so cool!!

Rainbow Bed and Pouncy

These were so much fun to make! I definitely see myself making more of these in the future! :D I have lots more pictures on my Flickr account if you’d like to see more rainbow cupcake-ness!

Oh yeah, I got an awesome new quilt for the bed yesterday at Target. It’s so rainbowy! I got matching pillow cases, pillow shams, and a throw pillow too. It definitely brightens up the bedroom!

Computer Lab Stuff

Friday, July 27th, 2007

The start of the school year is rapidly approaching which means back to work for me. I had meetings scheduled for July 30 and August 1-3. Luckily, the August 1-3 meetings were cancelled. :)

My mom and Katee have been helping decorate the computer lab. I’m going for an ocean theme. “Dive into technology.” :D The picture below is from the lab. I uploaded a few others to my computer lab album.

My ocean themed computer lab

I have so many things to do to get ready for the school year to start. I’m running out of time! It’s exciting, but at the same time I’m not ready for my summer vacation to be over. I like watching my painting shows on tv and being home with Pouncy all day. I guess all good things must come to an end though. I can’t wait to get the district calendar so I can see if they printed my school calendar image good.

Creating Calendars

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I was asked back in March if I would create an image to represent our school in next year’s 2007-2008 district school calendar. I was excited, of course. I mean, it should be the job of each computer lab teacher CIA to create the calendar image right? I mean, they should be the techy people in the school.

Anyway, the school calendar images in the past always contained student artwork. There was like a contest to get your art on the district calendar. Well, last year they decided to let each school create an image and those were used as the monthly calendar image. My school’s image last year (before I worked there mind you) was a big, blurry picture of the school with a bunch of poorly photoshopped sunflowers in front….sunflowers? There ain’t no freakin’ sunflowers in front of our school! How odd.

Today I just finished up the image. The principal (Notice how I always refer to her as “the principal? I just don’t want to use anyone’s name here :P) wanted us to really showcase the good things about our school and how we are winners (even though some might think we aren’t based on test scores. :P). So, this is what I came up with. This is a small picture. You can click on it to see the full version.

School Calendar Image

It’s ten-million times better than ANY school calendar image last year. Last year’s calendar was full of crappy-looking photos stuck on a page. No real graphic design skills were used by anyone. Not to say that I have ultimate supreme graphic design abilities, but at least I have enough sense to know that you don’t stick some ugly, blurry sunflowers in front of a school when there aren’t any there to begin with! :P
Now, I really need to work on the school website once I know for sure what I’m doing next year. :P

Picture Post

Monday, April 30th, 2007

I never did post pictures of my new hair. I was just too sad (ha, ha, ha…). So here for your viewing pleasure is….*drumroll* my hair, before and after. In the before picture, my hair is piled up in a hair clip. I’m still not used to the length really. I can’t do as much with my short hair. When I do try to pull it up, it makes me end up looking like I don’t really have any hair!

Before: Me with long hairAfter: Me with shorter, more curly hair

Wanna see something totally adorable? It’s Pouncy!! It looks like she’s yelling in the second one.

Awwwww!MEOW!

Only fourteen more days of school left (for students)!! I think I have sixteen more days and then….SUMMER VACATION! YIPPIE!!

Meet Beuford!

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Yesterday was another super nice day. I think it must have been around 80 degrees (F). 8) Colin and I went to Subway to get lunch. We took it to the park and found a nice picnic table in a semi-shady area next to the water. We had a visitor. Meet Beuford.

Beuford, as Colin affectionately named him, was only a few feet away from us almost the whole time. I tossed him a piece of my bread. He eventually got in the water and swam away. He was a funny dude. I took more pictures, and when I get a Flickr account, I’ll post more photos there.

After eating our lunch, Colin and I played “baseball.” This means, we each had our glove and a baseball. Some people would call this “playing catch,” but it’s the closest I get to playing baseball! :D
Let’s see, yesterday evening we watched a very interesting show on TLC about these two conjoined twins who turned 16. They look like one person, but with two heads. We also watched The Amazing Race. Tonight I’m excited because TLC is finally going to bring back One Week to Save Your Marriage with Dr. Robi. I thought the show got cancelled or something because it was never on anymore. I guess they were just making new episodes. Little People, Big World starts back at the beginning of April. Yay for TV! :D
I have ESS this afternoon from 3:00 - 4:00. As a matter of fact, I have it Monday - Thursday for the next two weeks! :P It can be quite boring sometimes. Oh well. Working extra days means extra pay at least. Spring Break get here soon! :D
