Quilting Bee Blog Day

Friday, December 15th, 2006

So, today is the second annual Q*Bee Blog Day. I wasn’t around for the last one, so it’s neat I get to participate in this one.

The Quilting Bee is an amazing little pixel club. It just so happens to really be the first ever organized pixel trading club. It is a wonderful community of really cool people and is not *that* hard to become a member of. You do not have to be an incredibly amazing pixeller to join. Here’s a brief description of all things Q*Bee related.

To join, you (of course) have to read the rules and meet the guidelines to join. (No Geocities sites, for example) You must create quilt pages, a 40 X 40 quilt “patch” to trade with others, and you need to update your site monthly and be able to trade at least twice a month with other club members. Those are all simple things to do. Your patch can be as simple or creative as you’d like for it to be. Everyone is really great about the patches and they never criticize you if your patch isn’t really fancy.

There are all sorts of neat things for members to do. There are club contests and activities, awards to win, and even a special member-only BBS. (This is the BEST BBS I have ever been a member of!) Right now there is a Christmas Activity going on where members can send pixel presents and Christmas cards to each other. I also created my very own Q*Bee Advent Calendarespecially for Q*Bee members.

There all also sorts of quilt goodies (freebie patches and graphics, quilt templates and borders, and quilt scripts) to help get you started. Also, if you get in contact with any bee, I’m sure they’d be more than happy to help you out and answer any questions you have. I know I would “bee.” ^___^

I’m bee #267, and I am a Worker Bee for bees # 181 - # 200. This means I check their sites twice monthly to make sure their quilts are running smoothly and that they are following the rules. I’m also a Daily Bee Staff free-writer. I’ve won several awards, and it’s really great because bees are very nice about nominating fellow bees for awards. Awards are given out monthly. It makes you feel real special when you win one. ^___~

I wanted to join the Quilting Bee because it looked so adorable. I saw a quilt on someone’s site, and I wanted one of my own! I think I might have even applied a few years back, but never took off with it. I rejoined this summer and have been a happy bee ever since. It’s really given me a chance to practice pixelling and creating graphics. Because of the Q*Bee I even learned some PHP and totally gave my site an overhaul! Many bees shared their expertise and helped me with this more than they may realize.

The Quilting Bee is about friendship. It’s not about how well you pixel, how big your site is, or who has the most patches. If you’re looking for a wonderful online community of super-nice people who like to make new friends (and have some fun too!)- join the Quilting Bee.

Where did he go?

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Well. Something totally weird happened today.

I finally decided to clean the fish tank. It was a little more than cloudy. So, I started scooping water out. Then, I got Chunk out (who is huge by the way). I was going to get out Slurpee next (the algae eater guy). I couldn’t find him. I decided to continue scooping water out and eventually I’d find the dude.

I never did. Everything came out of that tank. Everything except Slurpee.

Soooo…the only logical conclusion is that Slurpee died and Chunk ate him?? It’s just too weird though….

Dashy

Friday, November 17th, 2006

So, when my school had its fall festival, Katee won me a tiny little goldfish. Well, she actually bought it at the end of the night when they were trying to get rid of the ones left. Anyway, I named it Dashy.

He wasn’t an orange goldfish, he was sort of brown-ish. He was strange. He swam around a lot and didn’t eat. I tried goldfish flakes. Didn’t eat ‘em. I thought maybe he wasn’t a goldfish at all. I tried tropical fish flakes. Didn’t eat ‘em.

Well, I woke up this morning and it had happened. He finally died. :(
He’s now residing in a tiny box in the freezer with Eight Ball (who died months ago and *STILL* hasn’t been buried)…. ^___^;;

Meow-Meow

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

So, today I presented “Faux Paw the Techno Cat” to 4 classes in a row. Faux paw is this animated orange cat with 6 toes on each of her front paws. Anyway, the presentation is all about internet safety. Faux Paw meets Happy Fluffy Kittyface in the Ball of Yarn chatroom and decides to meet her in person. Only….”she” is a he- a big scary dog who’s gonna eat Faux Paw! Yeah, it gets pretty intense. ^____^

“I am FAUX PAW! Ze Techno Cat!”

Silly Halloween Nun Joke

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

I got this joke in my school email today. ^__^

Cabbie picks up a nun.

She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome cab driver won’t stop staring at her.

She asks him why he is staring. He replies: “I have a question to ask you, but I don’t want to offend you”

She answers, “My son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chanceto see and hear just about everything. I’m sure that there’s nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”

“Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.”

She responds, “Well, let’s see what we can do about that:

1) you have to be single and

2) you must be Catholic.”

The cab driver is very excited and says, ” Yes, I’m single and Catholic!

“Ok” the nun says. ” pull into the next alley. ”

The nun fulfils the cab driver’s fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush. When they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.

“My dear child,” said the nun, why are you crying?”

“Forgive me but I have sinned. I lied and I must confess, I’m married …..and I’m Jewish!”

The nun says, “That’s ok. My name’s Kevin and I’m going to a Halloween party.”

Hee hee!

Makin’ Bracelets

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

So last night was the fall festival at school. I was never told anything about it really (as far as me having to help out or do something). So, yesterday I asked Mrs. Sugg (while I was in her office trying to un-confuse here about some student assessment data), I asked her if I needed to do anything. She said I could help out with anyone I’m friends with or just help out with various teachers. Then she said if she had thought to tell me, I could have set up a booth for the computer lab. She didn’t think about it because classified staff aren’t even required to be there. Sooo…..I had already been thinking about what I would do if I could do a booth. So, at 3:00 yesterday afternoon I officially decided to set up a bracelet making booth.

After school was out, I went to Wal-Mart and bought all kinds of beads and elastic. I came home and got Colin. Then we went to the bus garage to pick up Katee. Theeeen, we got some food from Wendy’s and headed over to the school.

The fall festival was from 5:00 - 8:00. We opened our booth later than 5 (I don’t remember when exactly). There were some times we got really buys. We had kids all around our table making bracelts. We made (or the kids made) 85 bracelets in all (and only about 4 or 5 kids spilled their beads). I will get 50 cents per ticket to use to buy stuff for the computer lab. ^____^ Yes, it’s nowhere near the 492 tickets the blue pod (5th graders) made with their haunted house, but still; I think I did pretty good for it being so last minute. And yes, I had to buy all of the beads and stuff but I still made a profit.

Colin and Katee were a big help. ^___^ Well….Katee went off and played a lot of games, but she did get me a fish. ^_____^ That’s right! A new member to the family- a little tiny fish named Dashy. He lives by himself so Chunk won’t eat him. ^__^;;

Yesterday it was pouring down rain. As we were leaving the fall festival, I ran through a big puddle of water and got my feet totally soaked. Hopefully it won’t rain so much today. Tonight is the fall festival at my mom’s school. We’ll probably pop in for awhile. I think we might go get Degrassi Season 4 from Evansville sometime in the next little while. ^___^ Whoo-hooo!

OH! And I almost forgot. I got a laptop yesterday! ^_______^ Just wait until you see it. I’ll post a picture soon. It’s awesome. ^___^

Pouncy is adorable by the way. <3

Testing….testing…..testin…..testi….test….

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

So, I’m sick and tired of PLATO testing. You know, I don’t even know what the heck PLATO stands for. Maybe it doesn’t stand for anything. Well, it does stand for annoying, time-consuming, and redundancy.

So, for those of you who aren’t priveleged enough to know, PLATO is an assessment 3-5 graders take three times a year. And guess who is the lucky ducky that gets to administer this lovely piece of testing glory- the ‘puter lady. :P It was fine in the beginning, but now it’s getting down to the wire. The testing window is being closed on Tuesday (the window’s been extended twice now I think), and I am trying to get the kids all caught up. Absences, field trips, assemblies, etc. are not very good when it’s during testing. There have been so many problems during the testing- server problems mostly. I think theyre going to set it up so that next time every school in Hopkins County won’t be taking the test at the same time. But…. they can’t assign each school a certain day (which is the rumor). I cant have 180 (approx.) kids complete all 4 (or 2 in third graders case) complete their tests in one day. Oh well.

So people are still pleased with me. I’m getting praise from teachers, students….the principal O_____O

Oh, a funny story- the school does a Secret Santa thing, and I drew a name the other day to see who I get to play Secret Santa to. Out of everyone I got, I drew this lady who is a special ed. teacher. I don’t know her, like at all really, but the thing is…… since day one she has reminded me of someone. She kind of scares me because of this. Know who? Yes; she reminds me soooo much of..Mrs. Williams. *barfs*

It’s fall. Colorful leaves are falling. Temperatures are cool, wet, frosty. Elections are coming. The school fall festival is tomorrow. Days ae shorter. Darkness comes sooner. Pretty soon it will be snowing. (I hope! ^____^) Snow days!! Oooh! We didn’t get those in Lexington. :P
In other news, today was pajama day at school. I wore my Cheshire Cat PJ’s. ^___^
