Me - Ashley

Welcome to Rainbow Stuff, cyberhome of... well... me! I'm Ashley - a 25 year old elementary school first grade teacher from Kentucky. I met my husband online and I love him, strawberry smoothies and my one-eyed cat, Pouncy. This is my blog, personal website, and general collection of my bits of randomness. Rainbows rule. More?

Back home with a sick cat

Date Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Clock 2:45 pm ()

Well, after some silly moments I made it home yesterday about 4:00 p.m. or so. Let’s see, when I was checking out of the hotel, this man who was standing by the counter went, “Whoa! You smell gooooood!” He kept going on and on about it. Then he said, “I can see why you’re married.” The man behind the counter said, “What?” And the other man said, “She’s married, and I can see why. She’s smelling fine!” It was a little weird and creepy that he noticed I had a wedding ring on and thought I smelled so good. Clinique Happy Heart. Get some and attract weirdos just like I do. :sweatdrop:

Downtown Louisville

I made it to the conference with no problem. I just wanted to add that the reason I went to McDonald’s so many times while I was gone is because it was the closest thing to my hotel, and I didn’t feel brave enough to venture out and find food elsewhere. My workshop on copyright was pretty good. A lot of my teachers are doing things they shouldn’t be. Hopefully they won’t be sued. :) Lots of people apparently left the conference on Thursday night to try and beat the snow. Lots of people left yesterday morning too, so all of my workshops were pretty empty. I ate lunch by myself at T.G.I. Fridays. I’ve never eaten in a restaurant like that by myself. It was definitely weird. I had to walk around in the snow and stuff. It was really cold. It started snowing in Louisville about 8:30 or 9:00 probably.

Driving home from Louisville

As I was eating lunch, a brilliant thought came to me. I hadn’t gotten all of my first choices of workshops since I registered kind of late. I thought that maybe since lots of people were leaving though, I could get into a workshop that I had really wanted. (The reason I wanted it so bad was because you get free software valued at $200.) I decided that I couldn’t possibly adequately learn all about 5 different types of animation software in an hour, so I decided to try and find out of I could switch from the animation workshop to the other one which was about creating newsletters and school newspapers. I asked someone at the registration booth, and she told me to go ahead and show up to the workshop I wanted and it would probably be okay. And it was. Only me and one other girl showed up. I got my free software though, so all was well. :)

Driving home from Louisville

I made it home mostly with no problems. It was hard to see driving out of Louisville. A lot of the road signs were covered in snow which made it hard to tell where I needed to go exactly. There was pretty heavy snow all the way past Elizabethtown. Once I got into Muhlenberg County, the snow decreased dramatically. By the time I was back in Hopkins County, the snow was like non-existent. It was really lame. They had cancelled school yesterday due to “the threat of snow” and it didn’t even snow all day really! Luckily, I got home just in time. The place to turn onto my road was starting to get slick. After I got home, it started snowing harder and snowed pretty much all night I think. We have probably at least 8 inches of snow. It’s crazy! It hasn’t snowed like this in forever. You could actually build a snowman out of this!

Pouncy has had a cold for the past few days: runny nose, runny eye, and sneezing. She was also having some trouble breathing it seemed like. I decided when I got home yesterday afternoon that she needed to go to the vet. They were closed. :P I took a hot shower though and had her stay in the bathroom with me. We also turned on the humidifier for her. The vet was supposed to open at 7:30 this morning, so I called and the vet said the roads were really bad and he wasn’t going to be there long. Luckily, the vet is like 5 minutes away. We bundled up Pouncy and took off through the snow. She usually freaks out about the car, but she did okay today. She also did okay once we got in the vet’s office. She didn’t freak out about the dog or cat that were also there. The doctor was the only one there, so he was also having to answer phones and everything. Once we got in a room, we had to wait quite awhile. Pouncy got anxious and antsy and started freaking out. She was panting and sounded like she might hyperventilate and stuff. She was growling and hissing, biting and scratching and trying to get away. She hates the doctor. Always has.

Tractor and Snow Pile

The doctor finally took a look at her and couldn’t believe that she’s almost 18, has FIV, and has been doing absolutely fine for the past 3 and a half years. He said she’s outlived any FIV statistics that there are. He did say she definitely had a bad cold though. He gave her an antibiotic and some medicine for her eye too. He said to keep taking hot showers with her too. It’s important that she doesn’t lose her ability to smell, because if she can’t smell her food she won’t eat. Luckily, she is still eating and everything. She just looks so pathetic and sounds so sicky. :(( I hope the medicine starts helping her and she feels better soon.

Luckily Pouncy is an inside cat and doesn’t have to deal with this —-> (And the pile is getting bigger.)

Pouncy has a cold. Umm…when mine had a cold I fed them fresh fish (I boiled it) for the extra iron and vitamins it would give them. You might also try plain chicken broth or boiled chicken (not raw never raw). But with Pouncy having FIV you might want to check with the vet first. I would suggest keeping her eyes clear of the junk in it, if the vet didn’t advise you to. Just making suggestions, Ashley.

I am glad you made it home safely.

I swear it is in the air. Everyone I talk to has been having kitty problems. My max almost got killed last week. We now have to worry about his paw as if it gets worse it might get amputated.

I am glad you made it home alright. Where I live in California it hardly snows & when it does it doesn’t stick. It did this year a few weeks ago. So weird.

Cudos on the software. It would be great to have.
OMG for snow. Fantastic pix. Can’t top that this year. Looks like this place on a really bad day.
Good to hear you got home safely.
    Hope Pouncy gets better soon.

    Luv,
    Lan

    BTW
There’s an article in the Readers Digest about a married woman with children who was trying to improve on her looks / feel, so her reader’s can do that too. As part of her plan, she used some perfume with phernomes mixed in etc. She says she got hit on several times for that, and, strangely, she seemed to like it.
    Careeepy.
One hit in an elevator, a comment to the effect that the guy thought whoever she was going home to was pretty lucky.
    Shiver.
Mummy used to get hit on all the time when she traveled without me. She hated it. I think giving and getting tasteful compliments can be nice, in a re-assuring sort of way, but out and out hitting on an obviously married woman . . . not constructive in either direction . . . control yourself there buddy!

    Luv
    Lan

Oh man.. am i ever glad i’m not where you are. Here I am bragging about cherry blossoms and you’re weathering a sno storm!!! *hugs warm* I’m sending you warm sunshine vibes. I’m also sending Pouncy get well vibes  If she’s still eating then it’s ok. That means she’ll be bright as sunshine soon!

@ Miranda: Yes, free stuff is sweet.

@ Hev: The doctor gave us some medication for Pouncy’s eye. I have to usually wipe it out a lot anyway. Since she only has one eye, her remaining eye can get stressed out sometimes. She still seems to have a good appetite and is enjoying her turkey. (She loves Turkey.) :)

@ Jessica: I read a comment about your cat on the BBS. I’ll have to check your blog to see if you write about what happened. I hope your kitty doesn’t have to lose a paw!!

@ Lan: Well, it just seems like I usually attract these really strange men. And, not that it makes a difference, but it’s always African American men that say things to me. :sweatdrop: It’s weird. I’ll have to read the article in the Reader’s Digest. I personally only want/need to be hit on by one person- my husband!!

@ Christine: Yeah, she’s still eating. I was worried she might stop, but so far she’s just been eating as normal pretty much. :)

This doesn’t have to do anything with your story, but I have to say that I absolutely adore your new quilt layout. It’s so pretty! I guess I just love your pixel skills.
I’m glad you’re okay though and hope Pouncy will feel better as soon as possible.

What a weirdo, lol. We got dumped with about 45cm of snow this weekend. I had to work all weekend, so I braved the storm too! Hope your kitty gets better!

LOL at the man in the hotel! Maybe I should get some of that stuff. Attracting weirdos has got to be better than attracting no one at all.

That’s pretty cool that you got some free software out of your workshop. The whole “workshopping” element didn’t sound so bad either. hehe.

Wow, Pouncy sounds like quite the little trooper to have the history that she does. I’m sure you being such a caring owner has helped a bit too.

Haha, I do love the smell of Clinique - Happy, so I can imagine that Happy Heart must smell amazing too! :)

Frankly, I would like to say that you wouldn’t easily find a good pet hospital here. I used to pay a lot for my puppy, but finally she was dead. No operation, no medication…nothing for my puppy. Just leave her sleep for a night and died.

I like the Clinique happy fragrance. I have never pought it… but I’ve gotten the little tester things in the mail. I’ve had creepy guys comment me when I was wearing Lilu. ha.
