Mini-Vacation

Ah! I haven’t posted since July June 8th?! *smacks herself* Well, I’ve been busy I suppose. :hmm:
Colin and I just got back from our sort of mini-vacation a couple of hours ago. We went to Louisville on Thursday and went shopping (yay!). Friday we went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Today, we finished our trip off with a trip to the Louisville Zoo. So, what this means is… I have pictures to share!

Six Flags was pretty fun. When we got there we pretty much headed for the water park and got a locker to dump our stuff in. Then we went on a couple of roller coasters. It was weird because on those two roller coasters, there were only two other people on it with us. It wasn’t very busy for some reason. We had lunch at the water park and then jumped in the wave pool for a little bit. The most exciting thing we did at the water park was float along that lazy river thing twice in a row.
Adventurous of us, huh? We did a lot of walking, but that’s not even really worth mentioning.
It was a hot day. We pretty much didn’t really have to wait in line for any of the rides we went on. I think the rides we waited for the longest were the Breakdance or something, and oh man. :stunned: I swear it felt like I was in a washing machine. I was jerked around.

It was pretty rough. We went on the big ferris wheel appropriately named “The Giant Wheel.” We also went on a ride called Rainbow.
It was like this ride Holiday World used to have called The Banshee. The very last ride we went on was The Penguin’s Blizzard something or other. It’s a rapid ride, so we were expecting to get wet of course. When we got up to the front of the ride to get on, our raft was already full of about 5 inches of water. Bad sign. That ride was ridiculous! We got totally soaked! Yes, it was a hot day, but this was overkill. After the ride was over, it wasn’t like, “Oh! I got wet! Feels good! Fun!.” It was like, “Oh my lord. I am soaked. I need dry panties. I am miserable.” We actually went and got our stuff from the locker and left after that.
I’ve never taken so many pictures at a zoo before. I guess because every other time I have gone, I was only using a disposable camera. It’s not as easy to take good photographs with a disposable. You can’t check and see how the pictures turn out right away. I love my camera.
I pretty much got a picture of every animal. There were lots of random snakes I didn’t take pictures of. Yuck.

I’ve seen gorillas at zoos tons of times. They’re always been some distance away though, like up on a hill or something. We went in this one building, and they had some gorillas that you could see through the glass. There was a male silverback gorilla just standing right there in front of the glass. He was HUGE! Like, oh my gosh. I’d be scared if I ever ran into one of those guys and there wasn’t any glass between us. He started showing off too. It was cool.

I got lots of good pictures. (I’m posting more on my Flickr account soon.) Several of the animals had babies. There was a baby hippo, baby elephant, and…more babies that I can’t remember! So many animals! I tried to pick some really good ones to post in this entry. Maybe it will inspire you to go check out all of my pictures (THEY’RE UP! Click here for more zoo photos!).

Aww! I miss Louisville so much! David’s family lives there and I wanted to go to the kingdom and zoo so bad! Glad you had fun though

To go on a vaction would be grand! Sadly there is nothing around here to go to but a hotel. What fun is that after you hurt yoursef from playing on the beds too much?
I love all the pictures of the zoo, esp of the tiger in the water. I wish I could do that some days. Just lie around in the water. How heavenly.

You may want to edit that, I think it’s June 8th? lol do correct me if I’m wrong!
Whoa, the gorilla looked looks like a stature. He’s so big lol I’d like to have one as a pet. Haha! Sounds like you really had fun!

How fun! I love Six Flags! I may be going to Six Flags Over Georgia next weekend

*heads to Flickr to check out the zoo pics* -
I can’t help but wonder if we missed each other by mere feet at the Zoo. I stood and stared at that same silverback gorilla yesterday, watching him eat an egg then stare down at us. It was so freaking HOT at the zoo! We loved the Lorikeets the best though,
Got to wipe off poop from my daughter’s shoulder… -
@ Skye: Thanks for letting me know about that typo. It took me so long to upload all the zoo pictures and type that post that it seemed like I hadn’t posted since July 8th (of last year!).
@ Bubs: Cool! I’ve been to Six Flags in St. Louis, but that’s the only other one I’ve been too. I hope you get to go!
@ Arien: I bet we so missed each other. Maybe we were even standing next to each other and didn’t know. :stunned: How weird would that be? It was super hot, you’re right. A birdy pooped on Ravyn? Ewww! Poor her!

It’s been so long since I’ve been to Six Flags.. or the zoo. We used to have Astro World here.. which is a Six Flags theme park, but they closed. Sounds like you had a great time. The pictures are awesome, too.
I agree with you about disposable cameras, they suck. I prefer digi anyday!

well i was just browsing your site because i think its adorable, and i was reading you older blog actually haha, with your ” tagged” stuff, and just wanted to tell you i think it’s wonderful you met your husband online. I met my best friend/ soon to be husband ( hopefully ) online as well, back when we were teenagers still haha. Anyway ,sorry to butt-in, just had to comment on that. Take care.

I never went to the Six Flags park out in Louisville for the sake that it was lacking in a lot of rides. I guess I was just biased because I’ve been to the Six Flags in Gurnee, IL for so long that the Louisville one looked mediocre >_

Aw man, that face cut off my comment… Whoops!
I’ll try to remember what I said, heh.
After two years of living down there, not once did I ever visit the Zoo. I actually wanted to go a bunch of times, but I could never find any friends who were willing it. I know my friend Ashley ended up going with her daughter the one week that I was completely broke. Irony laughs in my face.
Did you guys end up shopping over at St. Matthews? When I first moved out there, my friends took me there, and saying “I’ve gotta piss like a race horse” could never have been any literal. hehe.
Reading this makes me want to move back there asap.
OhOhOh, did you guys go down to the Highlands and eat/shop around there? You can find some amazing places to eat at; There’s a couple of hidden vegan places that I found and my god, the BEST hummus and I can’t even remember the name of the sandwich, but it had two balls of mashed chick peas, with cucumber sauce, and a pita wrap. It was almost like a vegan gyro.. Sooo yummy.

Sounds and looks like you had a blast! Too bad I live on the other side of the state, or we would totally go this summer.
I’ve only been to six flags in St. Louis once, and it was so much fun - I love them parks, zoos, and the like. -
The rainbow rides sign reminds me of your site design.. how appropriate was it that you should land there? hehe
I’m glad ya had fun though and not a lot of riders is a good thing. The last time I went to an amusement park it was chuck full of people and we had to wait forever for each ride
-
@ Jo: Thanks! Having a long distance relationship is so difficult. We have certainly had our challenges, but meeting him online ended up being really great. I’m shy, so meeting people online is a lot easier for me.
@ Jordan: I agree with you. Six Flags in Louisville is a notch or so down from other amusement parks. I’ve only been to one other Six Flags (in St. Louis) and I think it is probably laid out better and has better rides.
The zoo is great, you should go sometime! Make someone go with you!

St. Matthews is so the horse mall. Horses everywhere! Yep, we went shopping there. We also grabbed some lunch there. The Highlands? Nope didn’t go there. I don’t know what that is! I’ll have to investigate that. Hmm…
@ Kristie: I’ve been to the one in St. Louis too. And I also love zoos, amusement parks, etc. The Newport Aquarium is so cool too!
@ Melissa: The rainbow sign is so cool. I wish I could bring it home and hang it on my wall or something.
And yes, not waiting in long lines is always a good thing. -
I’ve heard so much about six flags but never been. I somehow have the feeling I’ll never go there either
(Allthough I love parks like that)
I haven’t been to the zoo in AGES!!!! The last time when I was a kid with my school class I guess. But that’s on my list. The Munich Zoo should be really nice and I’d like to take the bubby there sometime
Hey - the rainbow sign looks like your site
(no - really??)Take care!
-
I’ve not been to a zoo in YEARS! There’s a couple within travelling distance of me and I think I’ll just have to go, now, after looking at your pictures.
The last time I went to a theme park was Blackpool Pleasure Beach over here in England. It has the infamous “Big One”, I had a good day, but the wristband/entry price is just so expensive.
-
I am so incredibly jealous of you right now! I haven’t been to an amusement park in entirely too long, and they’re so fun!
And the zoo! Oh my goodness! Your pictures are fantastic, too.
By the way, missy, I see your 101 things progress bar! It looks great! I love the rainbows you used!

-
Louisville sounds like a lot of fun. That water park would’ve been awesome on that hot day! That must’ve been a pleasant surprise that the lines were so short. LOL at that Rainbow ride. So cute, hehe.
I loved your zoo pictures! I love animals. I especially loved your photos of the polar bear. So beautiful and white!
-
Ohhh.. I wanna go to Six Flags too!! Hey good thing it wasn’t a busy day when you guys went.. cuz normally during the summer the line for roller coasters are like 2 miles. LOL which sucks. But lucky you guys! Looks ilke you had fun, that’s good.
-
Oh, amusement parks and zoos are tons of fun. If it’s not over 90.
I love the picture of the lizard. He’s just so wonderfully lazy-looking.
